Judo was founded in 1882 by Dr. Jigaro Kano in Tokyo, Japan. Dr. Kano’s goal for judo is "the ultimate perfection of the mind and of the body." In contrast to Karate, Judo consists of throwing and grappling techniques.
In 1964, Judo became the first martial art to be included in the Olympics. Today, Texas Judo has almost 1000 registered members. Judo is the second largest sport in the world!

The Hurst Recreation Center has been the main dojo for Okuri Judo since October 2000. The dojo features a permanent 42x42 gymnastics foam loaded mat. The large mat area allows for ample space for all aspects of judo training.
